Why European Solar Day matters

In just a few years, solar energy has evolved dramatically to become the most affordable clean energy technology and is now a major element of our energy system.

Today, solar powers the equivalent of half of all European homes.

It all began right here: Europe was and continues to be the cradle of solar innovation. It was the first place in the world to fully embrace the technology and provide genuine support for its mass deployment across the continent.

Today, solar energy employs a million Europeans and is powering the lives of millions more, providing energy for homes, hospitals, supermarkets to schools, farmers to football stadiums.

Yet, we must go further and faster.

In the latest fossil fuel energy crisis, solar matters more than ever before.

Our mission is to bring citizens, businesses, and politicians together to demonstrate the advantages of solar energy and drive action for a brighter future for all.

This year, European Solar Day shines a spotlight on Solar Stories – the real people, places, and communities behind Europe's energy transition.

Across Europe, solar is already part of everyday life.

Solar is powering lives, schools, and businesses, while helping communities become more resilient and in control of their energy.

These stories show that the energy transition is not something in the future. It is happening now – powered by people, driven by local action, and building a stronger, more energy-resilient Europe. European Solar Day, founded by SolarPower Europe, marks an annual celebration of the power of the sun and its importance in the energy transition. It is celebrated across Europe on 21 June, the brightest and longest day of the year. This special occasion is an opportunity for us to unite behind the bright future of European energy.

So, mark your calendars and join us in celebrating European Solar Day on 21 June!

Together, we can create a more secure, prosperous, and brighter future for all.
